post-camp doldrums

Hey there--

Just thought I'd say that I'm home, back in Baton Rouge, camp now being over.  I'm currently going through the post-camp withdrawal/depression period, which I knew was coming but forgot to prepare for.  It's basically a long bout of loneliness, when you're suddenly no longer surrounded by people day in and day out.  I'll be better once I've slept a night in my own bed.  Anyway, Kate and Kevin, I got your messages, but teardown lasted until 6:30, and then there was the eating and drinking.  Now I'm just worn-out (I think I was teetering toward a major heat-related illness today, what with the flushed skin and dizziness), and don't really want to subject anyone to my mopes.  I'll call you both tomorrow, K?  Sleep well, everyone.

you said it just right.

Drama Mike,

I feel strange having read your lj because, its just, you know, personal...but, I did, so I'm going to comment. This whole "post-camp withdrawal/depression period" is definitely not cool. You're definitely right by describing it as "a long bout of loneliness, when you're suddenly no longer surrounded by people day in and day out." I seriously cried last night just because it was so strange to be lonely and without people for the first time in 3 weeks. Earlier today, I was trying to figure out why I felt like I needed to talk or hear noise or whatever and then I realized that it was because this is the first time in a month that I do not hear CONSTANT chatter. Gosh, why didn't anyone prepare me for this? Sure, I knew about the whole "you'll be singing camp songs in your sleep and feeling urges to do the CBC tap" idea but...depression and loneliness? Darn. I really hope I get over this soon...

Lauren

Heya Lauren! Feel no qualms about reading the LJ, these posts are public for a reason :) [And frankly, I'll open most of the locked posts to just about anybody with an account that asks me, so even those aren't so terribly private.]

It will pass, it really will. See some friends, hang out, try to get back into the routine. Soon enough it'll transform into looking forward to camp instead of missing it :)

Mike, thanks so much for responding. You're right that I need to get back into the routine, but I really never had a routine. At least until I go back to school, I probably won't see any friends of mine. The good (?) news is that I'll be going to another camp in a few days, and then I MIGHT actually be going to New Jersey for a week...I really hope that works out. Anyway, thank you! I hope we all can keep in touch.
