Well, it's something at least.
Subsiding to matte
They roll on the paint
with even strokes, the fibers
releasing
from the wall with a soft sucking
to leave a deep swath
of gray-green,
lightly textured but subsiding to matte.
That was the color of the old University House,
with its high windows and its
low doors,
its high ceilings that now
swim warm yellow in the rising
sun and warmer orange the setting,
the old glass painting new patterns
each day
as it rolls serenely
down and down
with a soft sucking,
subsiding to matte.
